We are learning to use the 'Show, Don't Tell' technique in our writing. This is where you use lots of description to show the reader what you mean instead of telling them. It lets the reader visualise a scene or character in their minds and makes our writing much more interesting.
We found out that a simile is when you compare two things using the words 'like' and 'as'. Using similes paints a picture in your head and helps you to visualise the character. We are going to try to use similes in our character descriptions to make our writing more interesting and to bring our characters to life.
This term we are writing character descriptions based on characters from the the movies in our AVAILLL reading program. Today we looked at Lewis from 'Meet the Robinsons', we decided on different headings we could use while planning and brainstorming information for our description.
