This website has lots of funny poems for kids. Check it out. It is where I found the 'How to Torture your Teacher' poem we performed for our assembly.

We are doing AVAILLL as our reading program this term. It stands for Audio Visual Achievement in Language Literacy Learning. During this unit we watch a selection of DVDs with the subtitles on. We learn to read/watch a movie. Each segment of the movie has comprehension and vocabulary activities. These are some of the DVDs we will be watching this term:
Today we wrote/found our own precepts, words that we would like to live our lives by. We planned and presented them on posters.
In the latest chapter of 'Wonder' we met a new character, Mr Browne who teaches English. He explained the meaning of a precept and has told Auggie and the rest of the class that they will get a new one every month.
"Rules about really important things"
"Words to live by."
"Can help guide you in making a decision."
Mr Brownes first precept:
We talked about this as a class and we think it means...
When you are faced with a problem or decision, even if you are right sometimes its easier or better to just back down and be kind instead.
We thought that if everyone lived by this 'rule' the world would be a better place. There would not be any fighting or other conflicts. We also talked about how hard it would be to back down from an argument when you knew you were right just to save the other persons feelings. We decided being kind is not as simple as it sounds and that there are times when it is ok to be right.
After a loooooong discussion we came up with the idea that the most important word in this precept is CHOICE. We have a choice in every decision we make, every decision needs to be evaluated but sometimes it is better to choose to be kind rather than right. We always have a choice.
Do you choose to be kind?
Today is Auggie's first day of school. We came up with some advice for him to ensure he has a great day.

We think this means...
- Plain on the front but could be good on the inside.
- Don't judge others.
- See it, watch it, or read it before making a decision.
- Just because something is different about somebody e.g. they can't talk properly, doesn't mean that they are a bad person.
- Get to know someone before you decide whether you like them or not.
How would we feel if we were in Auggie's position and were starting school for the first time?
- Embarrassed because everyone would be staring
- Lonely, we would be used to having our family around all the time and we might not make any new friends
- Scared that we might get bullied
-Sad to be leaving home
- Mad at the way you look and the way others treat you
- Depressed because we wouldn't have any friends
- Creeped out at others staring at you
